VAR to be utilized in upcoming WC

VAR are set to be utilized at the 2018 World Cup, after football administrators approved the innovation. The International Football Association Board (IFAB), meeting in Zurich, elastic stamped a move effectively upheld by FIFA’s head honchos, including President Gianni Infantino.

“We came to the conclusion that VAR is good for football”, Infantino told journalists not long after IFAB reported the choice.

He added that an official approval to utilize the innovation at the World Cup in Russia will be made when the FIFA Council — world football’s best basic leadership body — meets in Colombia in the not so distant future.

IFAB said in an official statement that the “represents a new era for football with video assistance for referees helping to increase fairness in the game”.
