Former world cup winning German captain has announced his retirement from club Football as he reveals his plans to hang his boots at the end of the season.

Philip Lahm

Lahm, 33 has spoken in a post match conference in German cup last 16 victory against Wolfsberg and announced his plan to end his career in club Football after the end of season.

“I can continue with my leadership style, giving my best every day, in every training, until the end of the season. I can keep doing it this season but not beyond,” he said.

It means he will leave the German champions a year before his contract expires.

“I’ve been considering it for more than the past year,” he added.

“You have to keep testing yourself, you have to keep asking yourself ‘how is it’, day by day, week by week on the training pitch, what’s the feeling you have.”

Lahm has played 501 times with Bayern Munich after his progress to the Bayern Munich first team through youth rank back in 2002. He has won seven Bundesliga and one Champions league with the club.

Lahm, who captained Germany in their victorious world cup campaign in Brazil ended up his International career after lifting the trophy.
