Nepal faces embarrassing defeat in Siliguri, failing to create any serious chances in the game.

Nepal v India

Although Nepal started the play in the game, it was India who got to attack first in the game. Team India was awarded with a corner kick in second minute in the game.

India remained aggressive from the beginning in the game, but Nepal remained lucky not to concede a goal in 12th minute as Farnandes’ shot stroked the left side of the post.

The historic lead came in 21st minute for India when Sunil Chhetri scored to surpass Bhutiya’s record of 42 international goals for the host team. Striking in rebound, Sunil became the highest all time goal scorer for India.

Nepal could not create any attack in the first half. Jumanu Rai’s challenge just after conceding a goal was denied by defenders blocking the shot as the first half remained 1-0 after Kiran Chemjong denied strong Indian attacks to make the contest open in second half.

Trailing in second half, Nepal should have improved, however an early second half goal dropped down the tempo in Nepalese side when Clifford Miranda scored straight into the net in 47th minute.

The team that felt the absence of energetic faces like Rohit Chand and Bharat Khawas failed to impress both in midfield and forward line. Coach Stefanowski experimented few new faces with Deepak Rai making debut for the team replacing Anil Gurung in 51st minute. Shiva Shrestha was brought in for injured Raju Tamang later in the game. The only good chance Nepal created was winning successive corners in 80th minute, however failed to capitalize both those opportunities concluding the game 2-0.
