Nepal’s head coach, Jack Stefanowski, has admitted that he is confident his Nepal side have the ability to win the SAFF Championships.
The hosts are entering their final preparations for the South Asian tournament, going into the competition on the back of a promising training camp in the Gulf, including four wins from five games against Bahrain and Kuwait’s Under-23 sides.
Stefanowski, who took over from Graham Roberts at the turn of the year, feels that the time is right for his team to prove themselves by winning the SAFF Championship 2013, despite some uncertainty from the football betting pundits at Betfair.
The coach will need to put together everything the squad have been working on in the run-up to the tournament into practice against the seven other teams competing for the title in Nepal this month.
“I had set a target when I landed in Kathmandu seven months earlier, and I think the time is ripe now to deliver. The boys played really well in Bahrain and Kuwait,” said Stefanowski.
“The tour provided me the much-needed opportunity to transform the players into a team. They have come together as a team which is a good sign before going into the SAFF Championship,” said, according to Betfair.
In his first major tournament as Nepal’s new head coach, Stefanowski will be stepping somewhat into the unknown when his new charges begin their SAFF campaign against Bangladesh in their opening Group A clash at the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium.
After cutting his teeth in international football coaching the Puerto Rico national team, Stefanowski has been a breath of fresh-air for the Nepalese side since his arrival. And if the hosts can produce a strong showing in front of their home fans during the competition, Betfair pundits believe that the 38-year old coach could have the platform on which to build something special for Nepalese football.
