Scoring four goals against Real Madrid could be a big achievement for Manchester City, however the manager believes pre season results does not matter big time for both the teams.

“We won against the team that was the best in Europe two years in a row,” stated Guardiola to the assembled press.

“It was not important to them. We need to grow and build – Real Madrid are already done.

“Real Madrid never play badly. We were good. Real are always a top team and I admire them, like Barcelona.”

However Guardiola believes the score matters little for City as well and they keep focusing on giving good shape at the start of the season.

“It’s pre-season, so like against Manchester United, when we lost, we did some good things,” he added. “But you gain confidence playing at this intensity and at this level.

“I’m not talking about winning or losing, the dream is to be more stable. In those terms the result is nothing important. The way we try to fight, to play, is most important for our future.

“I focus my team and players. I want to convince them the best way to achieve our targets.”
