Nepal will host the first every SAFF U19 championship which is set to kick off from Thursday, August 19. The tournament kicks off in All Nepal Football Association complex when hosts Nepal will take on Bhutan, 3:30 pm local time.
The tournament will see six participants after Pakistan and Sri Lanka withdrew from participation.
The tournament sees battle withing two groups, three each in a group where the top two teams from each group battle for semi finals place.
Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh are tied together in Group A, meanwhile Afghanistan, India and Maldives will battle for their place in Semifinals from group B.
The home fans will have great expectation from the team that sees familiar faces from previous Nepal U-16 team that displayed terrific performance in Thailand in AFC U16 championship finals. Nepal were the only team to qualify for the event in Thailand back then representing SAFF nation.
The tickets price for the VIP stands have been allocated Nrs 300 while the normal tickets will cost Nrs 200 each.
Bimal Gharti Magar who has been recalled from Club Brugge training for the tournament will lead the team as the captain, meanwhile Bal Gopal Maharjan who led the team will remain the head coach while Sunil Shrestha will assist him in the coaching duty.
The ANFA informed that the estimated budget for the championship is Rs 7.8 Million. The SAFF will be providing Rs. US $ 50,000, while the rest of the amount is expected to be accumulated from the Ticket sales.
All the matches will be broadcasted live at Kantipur Gold television.
The tournament will send positive note to the international viewers as Nepal has been recovering from the devastating earthquake on April 25.
