In the last six competitive matches between the clubs, FC Barcelona have won three times while United have won in two occasions. One game between the sides ended in a draw. The last match between the sides was played in 2012 as a part of International Friendly and FC Barcelona won the match in penalties. The regulation time ended goalless.

Manchester United have already signed four players in this transfer window and they are all expected to start in this match. Italian Right Back Matteo Darmian, Dutch winger Memphis Depay, French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and German skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger have all made their move to Old Trafford. FC Barcelona, despite serving a transfer ban have signed two players in form of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla and Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid. Both these players are eligible to play in friendlies but will not be able to participate in first team football until January.
