Steven Gerrard is confirmed to leave Liverpool FC, a club that he has c omitted himself to at the age of eight. The news broke out after the Liverpool captain scored two goals against Leicester City but saw his team concede two to settle with a single point at Anfield.
The 34 years old Liverpool captain who announced his retirement from international football back in July, 2014 will soon announce his departure from his boyhood club and may confirm his move to MLS, with LA Galaxy being probable home for Steven Gerrard.
Jamie Carragher, Gerrard’s former Liverpool and England team-mate, tweeted: “Sad day for Liverpool and English football. I think it’s the right decision, all things considered.”
Gerrard’s contract is up at the end of the season and the longest serving Liverpool captain has seen himself rested very often in Brendan Rodger’s side. Following a 12 month’s contract extension offer, Gerrard has considered his options and decides to end up the speculations.
The question was never for money as he has long time been rejecting a lucrative move to Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Gerrard has made 692 appearances for Liverpool and has scored 180 goals for the reds.
With Liverpool ECHO confident on Gerrard’s departure , it is now just a matter of time for the Huyton-born star to announce his move away from Anfield.
The 11 years long Liverpool captain has scored in all major finals and remains the only player to score in finals of the Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup. However, the only honor absent in his CV is premier League title which he came close to but could not embrace last season.
The strong confirmation of the news comes from some of the stars who have commented on Gerrard’s departure through twitter.
According to ESPN FC, manager Brendan Rodgers has accepted Gerrard’s request to make a pre-contract agreement abroad, which means the big news is to come sooner or later.
It will be a great headache for manager Brendan Rodgers to fill the hole in the Liverpool squad in Gerrard’s absence. Certainly Liverpool will miss a legend and a command at the field.
