AFC President’s Cup 2014: MMC wins the opener against Sri Lanka Air Force

League Champions Manang Marshyangdi Club defeated Sri Lankan champions Sri Lanka Air Force by 2-1 in AFC President’s Cup 2014 match held at Colombo today. MMC came back after being a goal down to turn over the match with goals in either halves.

Manang went behind early in the match after a 5th minute strike beat the keeper and the home team were in the front foot but Shiva Shrestha equalized the game with just 10 minutes remaining for the end of first half. MMC had new backline of Jitendra Karki and Foreign Recruit Mbile Leonel Stephen.

Anil Gurung scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in 63rd minute to put the Nepalese team in front. Leonce Dodoz was brought down in the box by goalkeeper of SLAF and Captain Anil Gurung made sure the chance was not wasted with a well taken penalty. Gurung slotted the ball towards the lower left corner which beat the goalkeeper very well even if the five was in right direction.
