Real Madrid ost their first match of the tournament against Inter Milan in penalty shootout. Gareth Bale put his team in front with a brilliant long range effort which was enough to beat Samir Handanovic on goal. Mauro Icardi scored the equalizer from penalty after Inter were awarded a way into the match. Inter won the match 3-2 on penalties.

AS Roma, like their opponent Real Madrid lost their first match of the tournament. They lost 3-2 to Manchester United after conceding all thre goals in first half itself. Wayne Rooney scored two and assisted one for Juan Mata to complete first half demolition. Miralem Pjanic scored a 55 yard goal while Fransesco Totti scored one form the spot in final minutes of the game.
