It would be very difficult to predict anything after an unpredictable Spain-Netherland encounter where Netherlands confirmed a 5-2 victory coming back from a goal deficit.
Germany will be a sure contender of the tournament but the Joachim Low’s men face early strong challenge from Portugal. Germany are ranked second after Spain while Portugal are forth after Brazil in the FIFA world ranking which suggests how tough the challenge is going to be when Germany take on Portugal.
Here we will be posting our prediction of the match and predicted formation while the preview and starting lineup of both teams could be found here – Germany vs Portugal Preview and Lineup.
Formations
Germany:
Formation: 4 – 2 – 3 – 1
Portugal:
Formation: 4 – 3 – 3
Germany would be playing without any serious striker up front as their striking line has failed to prove in recent qualifiers. Meanwhile for Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo could be the top attacker with Joao Moutinho to Fabio Coentrao in the supporting role in the squad.
Reus’ injury means Thomas Mullar could start, while Podolski could also be choosed up front. Klose may be another option while Mesut Ozil could be another name that could act as a false nine. With better midfielders, Germany could lack a serious man up front but Klose’s experience and thrust to be the all time top scorer of the world cup could seriously benefit Germany. Ozil remains Germany’s top goal scorer in qualifiers netting eight times for the three times world cup champions.
Prediction – When two top European contenders meet in early stage of the world cup, we could expect nothing more than thrill, excitement and plenty of football. There is nothing to be predicted, however we predict a 1-1 draw with Ozil scoring first for Germany and Cristiano Ronaldo making a comeback to secure a point for Portugal.
