Armed Police Force beat ANFA U-16 4-2 on penalty shoot-out after the tie ended 1-1 at the regular time.
The game started as expected with both teams locking horns for the opening goal. Both teams created chances, but ANFA broke the deadlock. Anjan Bista put the U-16 team ahead in the match with a 15th minute header . He finished the former captain Hemant Thapa Magar’s cross into the net. Anjan’s header from the corner struck goalkeeper Amrit before crashing into the roof of the net.
The reply from APF was coming as they pressed hard for an equalizer. After 20 minutes of trailing, Ranjan Bista, the brother of a previous goal scorer levelled the match. This time too from a corner, but his volley was good enough to beat young goalkeeper Prabin.
The second half was similar to the first half with both teams pressing hard but failing to capitalize the chances provided. The game moved into extra time, but still no breakthrough was found and the game moved into a shootout.
The shoot out was different from the match as Bimal Gharti Magar’s kick was saved and the youth team trailed from the first shot. They never looked like they will be back as 2 kicks later, the goal scorer Anjan had his shot saved. The game was all over when Rajendra Rawal tucked in the fourth spot kick of a departmental team to book their places in the quarter finals.
Ranjan Bista, who levelled the match for APF was adjudged the Man Of The Match.
APF will now take now play their next round match on 23rd Falgun.
