Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, insists the transfer window is not important to his side and is instead focused on a tough fixture list.
City showed in the first half of the season that they do not need major surgery. They are still very much alive in all four competitions, although they have yet to progress past the third round of the FA Cup.
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn set up a replay at Etihad Stadium next Wednesday, a fixture that adds to City’s hectic schedule.
Pellegrini’s men face a two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final against West Ham and tricky Premier League trips to Newcastle and Tottenham before the end of January.
The Chilean has not ruled out adding to his squad, admitting he does have a few options. However, he is more concerned with helping the players currently at his disposal continue City’s bid for silverware on all fronts.
“Of course we might bring in talent if it’s a great player, if we want to improve, but right now it’s not our first concern,” said Pellegrini, according to the bet365 football betting site. “We’re looking at two or three things but it’s not important right now.”
One player who is expected to give City a lift before the month is out is Sergio Aguero, who is back in training after missing the last six games with a calf problem.
The Argentine’s absence should have opened the door for Stevan Jovetic but injuries and illness have limited the Montenegro international to just five appearances since his summer switch from Fiorentina.
According to the latest live football commentary, Pellegrini has backed Jovetic to recover from a tough start to his City career and play his part in the second half of the campaign.
“For the player it is always very bad news when he cannot play, but I think he is a very important player,” added Pellegrini.
