Barcelona head coach Gerardo Martino says Lionel Messi is in good shape but has opted not to risk the Argentina international against Elche on Sunday.
Messi will not play today
Messi, 26, is recovering from a hamstring injury and only returned to training on Thursday.
“In my view Messi is full of desire, I think he is in very good shape physically and has the look of a killer,” said Martino.
“He needs to gain more rhythm from training with his team-mates.”
Messi could potentially return for the top-of-the-table clash at Atletico Madrid next weekend. Barcelona face Elche looking to regain first place in La Liga after Atletico moved top with a 1-0 win at Malaga on Saturday.
