Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has declared his intention to stay with the club for the rest of his career.
The 27-year-old academy product made his Villa debut as far back as March 2006, the first of 296 appearances. He is contracted to his hometown club until the summer of 2015.
Agbonlahor, who has yet to find the net this season, has no intention of playing his football anywhere else.
“It is hard in this league to be a one-club man, but it’s always been on my mind to play for Villa until I retire. It feels weird even thinking about putting another shirt on,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
Villa have endured difficult times in recent seasons, finishing just above the relegation zone in each of the last two, shocking Unibet mobile betting fans in the process.
Agbonlahor scored some vital goals as Paul Lambert’s side avoided relegation last term and started the current one in impressive form.
Agbonlahor has represented England on three occasions but not since 2009.While he is well down the pecking order, he could give Roy Hodgson a headache by showing his best form between now and the World Cup.
However, an England call-up is a long way from Agbonlahor’s mind at the moment; he is simply focused on playing for Aston Villa. He believes the future is bright under Lambert and wants to be part of it.
“The club has got high hopes and we are building the squad. Look at facilities, fan base, Villa Park and the training ground, there’s no reason why you would want to leave,”Agbonlahor added.
“If you look at the teams we’ve beaten on our day, if we get the right bit of luck and the team plays together, then we can do well. It shows there are good things happening.”
