Host Nepal take on Bangladesh in the first semifinal of second SAFF U16 championship as they favorite to claim the title.

Nepal will play Bangladesh in the first semifinal of ongoing SAFF u16 championship. Nepal qualified to the semifinals of the tournament as the group A winners ahead of Bhutan, Pakistan and group runner ups Afghanistan while Bangladesh loss to India set them group B runner ups. With terrific performance so far, Nepal are favorites of the tournament not only to home fans but Bangladesh coach Rene Foster himself did not hesitate to praise Nepalese team.
“Nepal has quality players and I can even claim they are more quality than us. We will find hard clash in semifinals” , Bangladesh coach said on a post match conference after 2-0 defeat to India.
Nepal started its journey in the tournament with 7-0 win over Bangladesh after all 7 goals came in the second half while the second match remained 1-1 draw against Afghanistan after comeback goal from captain Hemant Thapa Magar. Nepal ended up winning Pakistan 3-0 to Pakistan to stand as the group winners.
Meanwhile Bangladesh along with India and Sri Lanka remained one of three teams in group B after Maldives moved back to withdraw its participation in last minute. Bangladesh’s start with win against Sri Lanka meant they were into the semifinals but yet left to decided on what rank in the group. However 2-0 defeat against India settled them as group runnerups and fixed date with group A winners Nepal.
Nepal striker Bimal Gharti Magar has caught thousand of eyes after he lies top in the goal scoring chart. It is yet to see how he performs in the knock out stage of the tournament.
