Messi Investigated for Tax Fraud | Could Face Jail if Proved

Argentine star Leonal Messi has been accused of tax fraud along with his father for the year 2007-09.

The 25 years old Barcelona striker has been filed a complaint for tax fraud as the world player of the year and his father are suspected of filing fraudulent tax returns for 2007-09.

On June 12, a complaint signed by prosecutor Raquel Amado was filed in a courthouse.

Messi and his father are accused of using companies abroad in Belize and Uruguay to sell the rights to sell his images.

If proved, Messi can face upto six years imprisonment and large fine as reported by Spain’s s EFE news agency.

Messi wrote on his Facebook page: “We have never committed any infringement. We have always fulfilled all our tax obligations, following the advices of our tax consultants who will take care of clarifying this situation.”
