Portugal stunned France in the second half of the added extra time to win the first major tournament ever despite loosing their main man Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half of the match due to an injury. The match ended 1-0 as Eder scored in 109th minute of the match.
This was the first time Portugal defeated France in last 40 years and it’s the first occasion France failed to win trophy in the home despite reaching final of the tournament. France dominated regulation but spent most of the evening running into Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio and, on one occasion, the Portuguese woodwork. They had 17 attempts at goal to Portugal’s six, but Les Bleus couldn’t make the difference. The last, most galling miss before extra-time fell to France’s Andre-Pierre Gignac, who hit the post in stoppage time.
Antione Greizmann grabbed golden boot award with six goals while Reneto Sanchez won best young player in the tournament award.
