Sunderland midfielder Emmanuele Giaccherini ruled out for the rest of the season

Sunderland’s hopes of retaining services of Italian winger Emanuele GIaccherini was dented after the Italian admitted that his season is already over after carrying another injury. The former Juventus winger broke his leg early in the season and was in line to make a return in mid-february. But yet another injury meant he will not play for the Wearside club again this season.

Sunderland are struggling to get off the bottom three in the league and are dealing with lots of injuries as they move on towards the final phase of the season. With just 10 games in hand, Gus Poyet and co need to start accumulating points if they want to stay in the premier league for yet another season. Sunderland are due to face Aston Villa next week and with Giaccherini out injured and Adam Johnson unavailable they will need to make adjustments in the wide area.
