Chile vs Australia : Preview and Predicted Lineups – FIFA WC Match 4

Chile and Australia have faced each other once, that being about 40 years ago in 1974 World Cup with the game ending in a goal-less draw.

Chile played two friendly matches before starting their World Cup campaign and won both the match. They won their first match against Egypt by 3-2 in a tight encounter and followed the victory with a 2-0 victory against a strong Northern Ireland team who held Italy for a 0-0 draw.

Australia had a poor preparation regarding the results they brought in the friendly matches prior to their World Cup campaign. They couldn’t muster a single win on  both their Warm up friendlies. They drew 1-1 to last World Cup’s host South Africa and lost 1-0 to fellow World Cup participants Croatia.

Team News:

Chile’s star midfielder Arturo Vidal has been ruled out of the match against Australia as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Carlos Carmon is tipped to replace the Juventus hit man in the lineup. Barcelona wing forwards Alexis Sanchez will partner with Valencia forward Eduardo Vargas for attacking flair of Chile.

Australia are into this World Cup with a comparatively inexperienced squad. Head coach Ange Postecoglou left out Luke Wilkshire and had to exclude Josh Keneddy from his 23-men squad with a back injury. Former Everton star Tim Cahill will be leading the attack while Crystal Palace skipper Mile Jedinak will play just ahead of defender in heart of the midfield in a five man midfield.
