See How Reus sustained the injury:

Reus had a good season with his club and was tipped to star for his country in the WOrld Cup. Manager Joachim Low had high hopes on the attacker as he had rested the fate of the team on him with only one out and out striker in the squad. The German International was rumored to join Louis Van Gaal in Manchester United next season but he cleared up the rumor saying he has no intention to leave his boyhood club.

Reus will now join his bundesliga rival Franck Ribery and Colombian Radamel Falcao among the star players to miss the tournament through the injury. Falcao was injured in the mid-season while serving for his club while Ribery sustained back injury while training with the national team. Theo Walcott of England was also injured while playing for his club and his Arsenal team-mate Alex Oxlade Chamberlain too sustained an injury in their team’s friendly against Ecuador. However, Oxlade Chamberlain has time on his hands and the injury is deemed not to serious.

Kevin Volland of Hoffenheim is seen as his replacement as Joachim Low looks to strengthen his attacking option after loss of Marco Reus and Vollan can operate on either wings as well. The wing-forward was included in provisional squad but did not make the final cut.
