Manager Hong Myung-bo has announced the final world cup squad of South Korea. South Korea look to emulate performance of 2002 under Hong, who then captained the team.
Arsenal player Park Chu-Young also made the cut despite not playing in the Premier League for long time. Park Chu-Young’s selection has raised a lot of debates among the fans as he has not played a competitve fixture for Arsneal for a long time. His goal against Greece in last friendly helped the coach to take the decision and when asked about thee forward’s inclusion, the coach said “Among Korean forwards, I couldn’t find another attacker to replace Park,”. “I have thought long and hard about this selection and decided on the final list just last night.”, said Hong.
South Korea are pitted in the Group-H along with Russia, Algeria and Belgium. They will open their World Cup campaign against Russia on June 17.

Manager Hong has selected Ki Sung-Yeung and Kim Bo-kyong as other Premier League representatives. Hong was the captain of the team when South Korea reached the semifinals while co-hosting the tournament along with Japan. The 45-year old then coached the South korea U-23 team which won the bronze medal in 2012 Olympics and there are lot of players from that squad in current World Cup rosters.
