Rohit Chand Speaks with NayaPatrika to express his feeling after he missed penalty on Nepal’s 1-0 defeat to Afghanistan in Semifinals.
Nepal were 1-0 down to Afghanistan in first semifinal after Nepal failed to get back the equalizer despite of continuous attack. Rohit Chand’s misss penalty in dying minutes made the situation even worse as the home fans walked home heartsick.
Rohit Chand talks about the moment and things on his mind with NayaPatrika.
“There is always fear when one takes penalty at such situation but I was confident on scoring” , Rohit said Nayapatrika.
“I almost stopped breathing when the keeper first saved the ball. The moment could not be described in words. I felt like I was the one who broke all the dreams of thousands of Nepalese Football Lovers”, he continued.
“Nobody stepped forward to take the penalty second time. The moment was all tensed; even our Captain Sagar Thapa did not have any words on who should have taken the penalty for the second time, so I stepped forward.
“I was in enormous pressure while taking second penalty. I never felt such pressure in my entire career. I had pressure to must score the second goal. The keeper dived to his left and saved the ball in first attempt and I thought he would dive the other way but he thought the other way. I felt like I was dreaming when my second attempt was saved. “
“I was the man with maximum pain because I was the one who wiped entire country. No player was able to sleep that night. We talked whole night about the match but we could not feel asleep.”, he added
