Afghanistan were the runner ups of the last tournament as they lost 4-0 to India in final despite winning Nepal 1-0 in the semis. Back in 2008 when these two team went head to head Bhutan won the match 3-1 in Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. Last time why they meet on 2011 Afghanistan won 8-1.  Bhutanese Captain stated during his arrival they want to repeat what they did five years ago and coach stated they want to surprise big teams. Bhutan is lowest ranked team in this SAFF region.

Bhutan had very shot practice session as most of the players were playing in Kings cup. Most of the Afghans player are playing in foreign based club and comparatively very stronger than Bhutanese players.

Few Bhutanese players failed to join National team as they are appearing the exams while Afghans are with their best team.
